When visiting Descanso Gardens on the northwest outskirts of Pasadena, it’s hard to realize that Los Angeles is only 20 miles away. Nine carefully maintained areas transport visitors to natural beauty, including the Japanese Garden’s calm ambience beneath the blossoming cherry trees.
Descanso Gardens is North America’s largest rose garden and camellia collection. The grounds have an immense oak forest with winding trails and benches. Visit the northwest pond to see rafts of ducks.
Descanso isn’t only gardens. Weekly programs and special events include haiku workshops and pumpkin carving festivals.
